Goal

The National Innovation diploma programme in Building construction Technology is aimed at producing Technicians with entrepreneur and ICT capacities that are capable of performing basic function in construction technology practice both in private and public sector.

OBJECTIVE
  • Production of simple buildings
  • Maintenance of simple Buildings
  • Management of small projects
  • Costing of simple construction works
  • Cost control techniques in minor construction and Engineering works
  • Selection of materials and Techniques for new building systems
  • Apply computer aid in execution of simple construction works
  • Establish trade outfits for simple construction works.
  • ENTRY QUALIFICATION
    Applicants with any of the following qualifications may be considered for admission into the National Diploma programme by direct entry.
    .
    a. S. S. S. C or its equivalent (N. T. C. WASC. GCE O’ Level) with credit in Physics and Mathematics and any other two subjects from the following: Further Mathematics, Fine Art/Technical Drawing, Geography, Economics, English Language, Chemistry/Biology, Agricultural Science obtained at not more than two sittings. Candidates are expected to have at least a pass in English Language. .

    b. Four credit passes in relevant subjects as stated in (1) above obtained at the final examination of an NBTE recognized preliminary ND programme offered in a polytechnic or similar post – secondary technical Institution. .

    STRUCTURE OF PROGRAMME
    The National Innovation diploma in Building Technology is a two year programme i.e. four semesters. Three months supervised industrial work experience (SIWES) shall be carried out at the end of each year of the programme. Each semester shall be of 17 weeks duration made up as follows: 15 Contact weeks of teaching, i.e. recitation, practical exercises, quiz, tests, etc and 2 weeks for examination and registration.

    EVALUATION SCHEME
    The National Innovation Diploma Examination must be externally moderated. In grading the students, theory shall constitute 30% while Practical is 70%.

    DIPLOMA CLASS
  • Distinction - GPA of 3.50 and above
  • Upper Credit - GPA of 3.00 - 3.49
  • Lower Credit - GPA of 2.50 - 2.99
  • Pass - GPA of 2.00 - 2.49
  • Fail - GPA of below - 2.00
